Learn More About Corrective Glasses

You should have your eyes examined regularly. The optometrist will let you know when you should get your next exam. The time between exams depends on several things, including your age and the current condition of your eyes. If you don't wear glasses now, then you may very well need to get glasses at some point in the future. You can learn more about some of the reasons why people need glasses, as well as other information you may find helpful.

Reasons Why Some People Need Glasses

Genetics - Many times people are more predisposed to having vision problems because vision problems run in their family. This is why you will sometimes see whole families wearing glasses.

Injuries - Sometimes, it can be an eye injury that leads someone to need to wear glasses. They may have to wear glasses to help their injured eye see, and the other lens will be clear glass. Sometimes both eyes have been injured, and the person wears glasses to improve their vision.

Computer vision syndrome - Computer vision syndrome is caused by spending too much time in front of computers, tablets, and other digital devices. When someone is spending a lot of time in front of these screens, they are causing their eyes to work harder. When they force their eyes to work that hard regularly, it can be bad for the health and well-being of their eyes.

Signs You May Need Glasses or Other Treatments

No matter how long it has been since your last exam, you should always get in to see your optometrist again if you are noticing a difference in your eyesight. You should also get another exam if you experience other issues that may have to do with your eyes. Some signs you should go in for an exam:

  • You develop blurry vision

  • You experience double vision

  • You are seeing flashes and/or floaters

  • You are suddenly getting headaches

  • You have a harder time seeing at night

  • You notice you are squinting when looking at things

  • You suspect you have an eye infection (red, swollen, itchy eyes)

  • You can't see as far as you used to

  • You can't see close print like you used to

  • You need to have it brighter in the house

Many of these reasons for getting an eye exam can often indicate that you may need to start wearing corrective glasses. Some others indicate you may have other issues going on with your eyes that you might need to be treated for.

About Me
contacts that don't need removed at night

I have worn contact lenses for the last twenty years and never had any problems with them. I had heard about contact lenses that could be worn for a week straight without having to remove them to sleep. This is something that really interested me because there are mornings that I just don't have the time to mess around cleaning and putting in new lenses. I liked the thought of being able to watch TV in bed without having my glasses pressing on the sides of my head. I created this blog to provide other contact lens wearers with the information that I used to decide whether or not to try these new lenses.
